PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management Arizona State Office is seeking a valley teacher (K-12) for the Teacher on the Public Lands, Hands on the Land summer internship program. The teacher intern will be working remotely at home and periodically at the Pueblo Grande Museum during their summer internship.
The internship will last for eight weeks between June and August 2021 for a total of 160 hours at the discretion of the teacher schedule. The teacher will receive a $2,200 professional development stipend, paid tuition for a three credit hour graduate course at the University of Colorado–Denver, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience promoting hands-on learning through some of the United States’ most treasured cultural and natural resources.
The TPL intern will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of Arizona’s rich cultural heritage resources, BLM mission and resources. The intern will also create archaeological education materials and lesson plans using Project Archaeology’s premiere curriculum “Investigating Shelter” that can be used by BLM employees, other Arizona teachers, indigenous communities, and youth. When TPL teachers return to school in the fall, they spend part of their classroom time presenting their TPL experiences to their own students and to other appropriate audiences. The program allows teachers to fully explore BLM public lands, enrich their students with a clearer understanding and appreciation of public lands resources, develop education projects and materials and have the opportunity to receive graduate and/or continuing education credits.
For more information on the Teacher on Public Lands Program and an internship application, please visit the BLM Arizona State Office Website or contact Brooke Wheeler (bwheeler@blm.gov) for an application.
Teachers must be U.S. citizens, K-12 certified teacher and able to commit to program requirements. Please submit application, resume and any other application materials to Brooke Wheeler by March 31, 2021.
