WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Winnemucca District Office invites the public to share their knowledge about travel routes in two areas of public lands located north of Winnemucca, known as the Lone Willow and Santa Rosa Travel Management Areas. Public meetings have been scheduled for May 23^rd from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center, West Conference Room, located at 50 W. Winnemucca Blvd #1, Winnemucca, Nevada, and on May 24^th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Orovada Community Center, located at E. King’s River Hwy, Orovada, Nevada.

The Lone Willow Travel Management Area is approximately 40 miles north of Winnemucca, west of US-95 and east of US-140. It extends north to the Nevada/Oregon border and includes portions of the Bilk Creek and Montana Mountain Ranges. The Santa Rosa Travel Management Area is approximately 30 miles north of Winnemucca, east of US-95 and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It extends north to the Nevada/Oregon border and includes a portion of the Santa Rosa Mountain Range.

The BLM is in the pre-planning stages of developing a travel management plan that will address current and foreseeable needs and uses related to roads, primitive roads and trails within these areas. The BLM travel management process assesses existing routes and creates a travel network that provides access to public lands. The BLM has completed an inventory of all travel routes within these planning areas, and is requesting public review to ensure that all travel routes are included in this inventory. This is an opportunity for the public to identify their favorite routes, campsites and uses in these areas. Involving the public in this pre-planning stage allows the opportunity for comments to be considered throughout the entire planning process and prior to any decisions being made.

The planned agenda items for the meetings include a discussion of the travel and transportation evaluation process to address public access needs within the Travel Management Area and an overview of the route inventory.  There will also be a discussion and identification of key issues and access opportunities that should be evaluated during the travel management process. 

The public may submit written comments to the BLM Humboldt River Field Office between May 14 and June 13, by emailing comments to malorusso@blm.gov or by mailing comments to the BLM Humboldt River Field Office, Attn: Humboldt River Field Office Outdoor Recreation Planner, 5100 E Winnemucca Blvd, Winnemucca, NV, 89445.  An ePlanning website has been established for this pre-planning effort and commenters are encouraged to review the documents online and submit comments by downloading the comment form available at https://go.usa.gov/xQNz2. For individuals who cannot attend, meeting materials will be available online by May 23^rd at the ePlanning website and in hard copy at the BLM Winnemucca District Office.
