LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Purple Sage Energy Center proposed on approximately 4,424 acres of public lands in Clark County. If approved, the project could generate and store up to 400 megawatts of clean energy for the transmission grid.

The BLM intends to host one in-person and one virtual public meeting to discuss the Purple Sage Energy Center project: an in-person meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. PT on Jan. 14, 2025, at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino, 681 NV-160, Pahrump, NV, 89048; and a virtual meeting (register to attend at the BLM National NEPA Register) from 6 to 8 p.m. PT on Jan. 16, 2025.

A Notice of Availability will publish in tomorrow’s Federal Register to begin a 90-day comment period. Written comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” function at the BLM National NEPA Register (preferred); emailed to BLM_NV_SND_EnergyProjects@blm.gov; or delivered to the BLM Southern Nevada District Office, Attn: Purple Sage Energy Center Project, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV, 89130. The comment period ends Feb. 13, 2025.

“We appreciate the public’s input we have received and will receive throughout the NEPA process for this proposed project,” said Las Vegas Field Manager Bruce Sillitoe. “Public comments help inform thorough and effective environmental analysis necessary for responsible solar development on public lands.”

The Biden-Harris administration has approved 43 renewable energy projects on public lands (10 solar, 14 geothermal, 1 wind, and 18 gen-ties) and exceeded the goal to permit 25 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2025. The BLM has permitted clean energy projects on public lands with a total capacity of more than 32 gigawatts of power – enough to power more than 15 million homes. This year BLM also issued a final Renewable Energy Rule that will lower consumer energy costs and the cost of developing solar and wind projects, improve project application processes, and incentivize developers to continue responsibly developing solar and wind projects on public lands.

For more information on either project, please contact Jessica Headen, Project Manager, at (702) 515–5206 or email BLM_NV_SND_EnergyProjects@blm.gov.
