LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Field Office today announced it is seeking public comment on a proposal to lease approximately 15 acres of public land to the Clark County School District for an elementary school and related facilities. The public land proposed for lease is located along a portion of El Capitan Way, south of Mountains Edge Parkway in the southwest area of the Las Vegas Valley. The school property would include five school buildings, parking for school staff, public parking, busing with pick-up and drop-off points for students, kindergarten classrooms, a fenced-off play area, areas for basketball courts, ball fields, bike racks, shaded rest areas, a botanical learning area, a turf play area, playgrounds, a tetherball court area, and utilities.
“The BLM strives to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve and if approved, this Recreation and Public Purpose lease is a great example of how public lands can contribute to the well-being of local communities,” said Gayle Marrs-Smith, Las Vegas Field Office Manager.
The Notice of Realty Action for a Recreation and Public Purposes Act (R&PP) Classification was published on July 30, 2018, in the Federal Register. Interested parties may submit comments regarding the proposed decision for the R&PP application and plan of development, whether the BLM followed proper administrative procedures in reaching the decision to lease and convey under the R&PP Act, or any other factor not directly related to the suitability of the land for R&PP use.
