BLM seeks input on proposed campground and trails near Goosenecks State Park

MONTICELLO, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Monticello Field Office is seeking public input on a BLM and Utah Division of Parks and Recreation (UDPR) joint proposal to develop a campground and mountain bike trails on BLM-administered lands near Goosenecks State Park in southeast San Juan County. The public scoping period will begin on Jan. 13, 2020 and end on Feb. 14, 2020 and public comments will help the BLM develop a draft environmental assessment.
Increased visitation in the region and a lack of developed amenities has resulted in resource damage, proliferation of campfire rings, and impacts to the State Park viewshed. The proposed project is intended to address resource concerns resulting from unmanaged recreation and increase recreation opportunities in the area. This interagency proposal includes provisions for joint management of future recreation facilities under a cooperative management agreement.
The BLM is asking the public to help identify new issues and provide information that could be useful in the development of alternatives or analysis. The preliminary proposal and scoping document are available on the BLM’s ePlanning website: https://go.usa.gov/xpSPr. To be considered, comments must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2020.
