The BLM makes mineral resources available for development to meet national, regional, and local needs.  Under the Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Leasing Reform Act of 1987, the BLM conducts oil and gas lease sales quarterly in each state whenever eligible lands are available for leasing.

Prior to offering nominated parcels for lease at a sale, if analysis is warranted, the BLM will complete an Environmental Assessment to disclose the potential impacts from issuing the concerned leases and identify stipulations that would be included with each lease.  If analysis is warranted, an Environmental Assessment will be available for a 30-day review beginning on February 7, 2017.

Questions may be directed to North Dakota Field Office Natural Resources Specialist Paul Kelley at (701)227-7767 or South Dakota Field Office Physical Scientist Russ Pigors at (605)892-7012.
