LAS VEGAS—The Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Field Office is seeking public comments on a proposed Designated Leasing Area (DLA) east of the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone north of Las Vegas.  The proposed DLA would allow BLM to conduct a competitive lease auction for solar development.

The proposal aligns with a Trump Administration priority of Making America Safe through Energy Independence.  The Administration’s “all-of-the-above approach” includes making public lands available for renewable sources such as wind, geothermal, and solar, as well as sources such as coal, oil and gas.

“The BLM strives to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve, and we look forward to receiving input from the public on this important proposal,” said Gayle Marrs-Smith, BLM Las Vegas Field Office Manager.

It is estimated that the project would generate up to 3,600 direct jobs at peak construction with a permanent staff of 15 operating the plants after construction.  Up to 150 Megawatts of solar power could be generated from the DLA.

A Notice of Intent to Prepare a Resource Management Plan Amendment Environmental Assessment and Notice of Mineral Segregation for the Proposed Dry Lake East Designated Leasing Area, Clark County, Nevada was published in today’s Federal Register, opening a 30-day public comment period which closes on May 14, 2018.

Public meetings will be announced at least 15 days in advance through local media and on the BLM website at https://go.usa.gov/xnbdU

Written comments may be mailed to the BLM, Las Vegas Field Office, Attn: Nicollee Gaddis, 4701 North Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130–2301 emailed to BLM_NV_SNDO_DLE_DLA@blm.gov or faxed to (702) 515-5010.
