BLM seeks comments on alternatives addressing ailing San Pedro cottonwood trees

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Tucson Field Office is releasing proposed alternatives to address two ailing cottonwood trees located in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area.The release of these alternatives will occur at a Jan. 10 public meeting and will kick off a 15-day comment period that will end Jan. 25. Public comments on the alternatives are encouraged and can be provided to blm_az_southeasternarizonacomments@blm.gov.The meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the BLM’s San Pedro Project Office, located at 4070 S. Avenida Saracino, in Hereford, Ariz.“During the meeting, interested stakeholders will be given a presentation on the proposed alternatives and have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions with BLM specialists,” said Melissa Warren, manager of the Tucson Field Office.The BLM plans to release a final Environmental Assessment (EA) by late February.Scoping documents and the arborist’s report are available on the BLM ePlanning portal: bit.ly/SanPedroTreeAdditional information about the NEPA process can be found at: https://www.epa.gov/nepa/national-environmental-policy-act-review-process # # #
