MONTROSE, Colo. – On Saturday, June 4, the Bureau of Land Management and its partners invite the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony and trail building event to showcase routes near Ridgway, Colorado.

The Ridgway Area Trail System currently features about 15 miles of non-motorized single track routes. Visitors can access the trail system from the County Rd 10 trailhead or from Ridgway off of the Uncompahgre Riverway Trail.

“We want to thank the community and the many partners who helped develop the Ridgway Area Trail System, a premier destination for mountain biking, hiking and equestrian use,” said Julie Jackson, BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner and Acting Assistant Uncompahgre Field Manager. “Our valued partnerships with Ridgway Area Trails, Ouray County, Town of Ridgway, Ridgway State Park and Colorado Parks and Wildlife secured the necessary funding and volunteer work that made this trail system possible.”

Last year, Ridgway Area Trails was awarded a Colorado State Non-motorized Trails grant for $200,000 for trail construction and maintenance.  The group received another $200,000 grant this year, enabling youth crews to continue work this summer.

Trail construction will begin at 9 a.m.  Volunteers should meet at the BLM trailhead on County Road 10 north of Ridgway and are encouraged to bring gloves, boots and water.  At 11 a.m., the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony kicks off to celebrate the success of the partnerships.  The day concludes with a group-led mountain bike ride from 1-3 p.m.
