CARLSBAD, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management Carlsbad Field Office is partnering with Eddy County and the cities of Artesia and Carlsbad to host Better Together, a National Public Lands Day weeklong event Sept. 17 - 24. Better Together is a countywide competition fostering civic engagement through trash clean ups and healthy rivalries.
Individuals and groups are encouraged to organize clean up events throughout Eddy County and submit (through email or online form) proof of their clean-up activities. Participants can utilize maps with known trash locations and roll-off dumpsters provided by municipal and industry partners. Maps can be found here: https://arcg.is/49CrH0. Through QR codes posted near all dumpsters and on Better Together flyers participants will be able to access an online form to submit documentation of the trash they collected, the number of participants in their group, and pick the municipality they want their trash points to go toward. Submissions may also be done by emailing Better.Together.NPLD@gmail.com.
A “Golden Tire Award” will be presented to the municipality whose citizens collectively remove the most trash from our county’s public spaces. Prizes will also be awarded for largest amount of trash cleaned at a single event, most participants at a single event, and most trash picked up by a single group or individual over the weeklong event.
Please direct all questions about the event to Better.Together.NPLD@gmail.com. Information about National Public Lands Day can be found at www.publiclandsday.org.
