REDDING, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management in cooperation with the CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit will be conducting a prescribed fire on public lands in the Sacramento River Bend area during nighttime hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7-8. Burning will take place along Spring Branch Road, about a mile-and-a-half east of Jelly’s Ferry Road.
The 75-acre broadcast burn is designed to reduce hazardous fuels that could feed a wildfire, and to improve rangeland health. “The Spring Branch area is popular for a variety of recreational uses, including target shooting,” said Jennifer Mata, manager of the BLM’s Redding Field Office. “The prescribed fire project will help reduce fire risk.”
Smoke will be visible from the Bend community, Jelly’s Ferry area, the Battle Creek fish hatchery, State Highway 36 and Red Bluff.
Additional information is available from the BLM Redding Field Office, 530-224-2100.
