The Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States (BLM-ES) office will hold a quarterly, competitive oil and gas lease sale on March 15, 2012, at the BLM-ES office located at 7450 Boston Boulevard, Springfield, Virginia. The sale is open to the public. Parking is available. The Public Room at the BLM-ES office will open at 8:00 a.m.; bidding at the oral auction will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The BLM-ES is offering 89 parcels containing 115,199 acres of Federal lands in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. In Alabama, parcels are offered in Pickens, Escambia, Covington and Bibb counties. In Louisiana, parcels are offered in Caldwell, Caddo, Bossier, Vernon, Rapides and Natchitoches parishes. In Mississippi, parcels are offered in Smith, Scott, Wayne and Franklin counties.

The BLM develops an Environmental Assessment (EA) for each lease sale, which tiers to the Resource Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement already in place for each Field Office. This allows the public an additional opportunity to comment on any parcel proposed for the lease sale. During public comment periods, nominated parcels and their recommended stipulations will be posted for public review for a period of 30 days at http://www.blm.gov/es/st/en/prog/minerals/nominated_parcels.html. The public protest for this lease sale ended January 15, 2012. No protests were received.
