FARMINGTON, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) today announced it will host a virtual Northern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council (RAC) meeting on Aug. 19 from 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Planned meeting agenda items include: an overview of the El Malpais National Conservation Area (NCA); potential fee discussions for Joe Skeen Campground and Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument; and updates from the BLM Farmington, Taos, and Rio Puerco Field Offices.

To register to attend the meeting virtually, please go to: https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_BmC1KmxDSvKxfqrV0ZKEZg.

A half-hour comment period during which the public may address the RAC will take place at 2:15 p.m. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.

Federal Register Notice published an announcement for this event on June 25, 2021. The notice mentioned that there would be an in-person field trip component to this session on Aug. 18 to visit the El Malpais NCA. Due to the increase in COVID cases throughout the nation and concern for the health of the public, RAC members, and BLM staff, the agency is canceling this trip.

RACs are critical in assisting the BLM in continuing to serve local communities. The 12-member Northern New Mexico RAC provides advice and recommendations to the BLM on resource and land management issues within the BLM Farmington District Office (which includes the Farmington and Taos Field Offices), as well as the Rio Puerco Field Office. RAC members are citizens who represent varied public land interests.
