The Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Department of Corrections – Silver State Industries is cancelling the February 2023 wild horse adoption event.
"Due to the recent storms that have occurred since the New Year holiday, we felt that for both the animals and the public it was the right thing to do,” said Ruth Thompson, BLM Nevada, Wild Horse and Burro Specialist. “NNCC takes great pride on the level of training of their horses to ensure successful long-term homes and we are also concerned that road travel within the next few weeks could continue to be an issue.”
The BLM has placed over 305,000 wild horses and burros into private care since 1971. Many of those animals have become excellent pleasure, show, work, or companion animals.
The next saddle-trained wild horse adoption and competitive-bid auction at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center is scheduled for June 3, 2023. Additional information on this partnership, including past and current event catalogs, is posted on-line at NNCC.
For more information about adoption or sale events and how to adopt or purchase your own wild horse or burro visit BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program webpage at https://www.blm.gov/whb.
