BLM names Sharif Branham as Assistant Director of Resources and Planning

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bureau of Land Management today announced the appointment of Sharif Branham as the new Assistant Director for Resources and Planning. Branham will begin his new position on October 22 at BLM’s offices in the Udall Interior Building in Washington, D.C.

“Sharif is an outstanding leader, collaborator and land management professional who has extensive experience in resource conservation and planning that is grounded in science. We’re excited to have him help lead the BLM’s efforts to manage America’s public lands,” said BLM Director Tracy Stone-Manning.

Over the past four years, he has served as the Director of the Strategic Support Services Division, the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Washington, D.C. guiding the development and implementation of the $6B Agency Financial Management Plan. Prior to holding that position, Branham held a variety of positions at the Natural Resources Conservation Service for nearly 20 years, including Acting Deputy Chief for the Soil Science & Resource Assessment and Acting Chief of Staff to the Associate Chief of Conservation.

As the BLM’s Assistant Director for Resources and Planning, Branham will oversee policy development and program oversight for the Resources and Planning Directorate, including: Planning and Decision Support; Range, Riparian, and Forest Management; Fish and Wildlife Conservation; Wild Horse and Burro Management; and Environmental Quality and Protection.

Branham earned a master’s degree in environmental biology from the University of Pennsylvania and his bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
