BLM Montana/Dakotas Welcomes New Chief of Communications

The Bureau of Land Management is pleased to announce that Al Nash has joined BLM Montana/Dakotas (MT/DKs) as the new chief of communications. Nash, who begins his position at the state office in Billings on March 23, replaces Melodie Lloyd who retired at the end of 2014.“Al brings with him a strong public service ethic and a wealth of experience with the resources, communities and culture of Montana and the Dakotas," said BLM MT/DKs State Director Jamie Connell. “We are very happy he is joining our team."Nash has served as the chief of public affairs for Yellowstone National Park since 2006. He began his career with the federal government in 1995 as a seasonal park ranger in Yellowstone National Park. Since then, he has held various positions with the National Park Service including public affairs specialist, fire management officer, and supervisory park ranger.His previous private sector experience was primarily in radio and television news, including seven years with the Montana Television Network as News Director at KTVQ-2 in Billings, and a semester as a full-time Adjunct Professor of Journalism at the University of Montana in Missoula.“I'm excited to be joining the BLM team," said Nash. “They are a dedicated group of public servants who manage diverse landscapes and abundant resources for multiple use to benefit the American people."Nash holds a Master's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Iowa State University. A long-time weather enthusiast, he recently completed the Certificate of Achievement Program in Weather Forecasting from The Pennsylvania State University. He is an instrument-rated private pilot and an active volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol, the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, where he holds the rank of Lt.
