PARIS, Idaho – On Wednesday, May 29, the Bureau of Land Management Pocatello Field Office invites the public to attend the proposed South Canyon Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction Project open house. The open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the School District Office Boardroom located at 39 Fielding Road, Paris, ID 83261.

“The South Canyon Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction Project is intended to protect lives and property near Fish Haven from a wildfire,” said Melissa Warren, BLM Pocatello Field Office Manager.“The treatments considered will reduce vegetation that fuels wildfires and create fire breaks to aid in wildland fire suppression.”

Wildland fire is becoming increasingly prevalent in the West, catastrophically impacting communities and public lands. To mitigate the impact, the Bear Lake Soil and Water Conservation District and the BLM are constructing fuel breaks around the Bear Lake West subdivision. The BLM is proposing to continue these fuel breaks north to Jacob’s Canyon Road, along the western boundaries of Canyon Estates and The Reserve at Bear Lake subdivisions.

Written comments on the proposal may be submitted at the open house or mailed to the BLM Pocatello Field Office, 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, ID 83204. For mailed written comments to be considered, they must be submitted to the BLM Pocatello Field Office on or before June 7, 2019.
