Grand Junction, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office invites volunteers to celebrate the 26th annual National Public Lands Day with a variety of volunteer events in September and October.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands, celebrated on the fourth Saturday of September. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people around the country donate their time to assist with various projects to benefit public lands and resources.

  • September 21 at 8 a.m. - Install size limiters on ATV trails in Cactus Park in the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area with Western Slope ATV Association
  • September 21/22 at 8 a.m. - Assist with construction of a multiple-use single-track trail project in the Bookcliff trails with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association, the Bookcliff Rattlers, and Motorcycle Trail Riding Association. This event requires registration at https://www.voc.org/project/trail-construction-book-cliffs.
  • September 28 at 9 a.m. (National Public Lands Day) - Join Colorado Canyons Association to clean up the Rabbit Valley area near Interstate-70 within McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area.
  • October 5 at 9 a.m. - Assist with trail restoration and painting the information kiosk at Devil’s Canyon with Mesa Monument Striders and Great Old Broads for Wilderness.

Volunteer events are open to all ages, but an adult must accompany children under the age of 18. Volunteers should bring water, sun protection and snacks, and wear closed-toed shoes.
