CANON CITY, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office will be hosting a public meeting on Nov. 15 at the Fairplay Community Center, 880 Bogue St. from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to update the public on the status of the South Park Master Leasing Plan. The BLM will also outline the next steps in the planning process.

The purpose of a Master Leasing Plan is to provide BLM managers a way to strategically plan for oil and gas leasing and development and address potential resource conflicts.

The BLM will provide an outline of the preliminary draft of the MLP at this meeting. Later in November, Cooperating Agencies, including Park County, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and others will review and further develop the MLP.  Once the BLM incorporates the input from Cooperating Agencies,  the draft MLP will be released for public input in early winter 2017. Therefore, the BLM will not be accepting public comments on the MLP at this meeting.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency.
