TAOS, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Taos Field Office invites the public to participate in the upcoming Sombrillo Travel Management Plan mapping sessions. The engagement sessions allow the public to submit input on proposed hiking and bicycle routes for eventual trail designations. The planning area, which is near Nambe, is 20 miles north of Santa Fe, east to US-84/Hwy 285, extending north to Española, and south Hwy 76 extending east to the Santa Fe National Forest.
The BLM is following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and working with state and local health authorities to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. For this reason, we are conducting the meetings outside and capping attendance at 20 participants who must pre-register to attend. All four session will provide the same information. We are also requiring attendees to practice social distancing and wear a mask. The BLM will provide a mask to anyone who does not have one. As the meetings will take place outside, we recommend that all attendees dress appropriately for the weather.
The meetings will take place on the following dates:
Nov. 13 (must pre-register by Nov. 10)
- 10 a.m.-noon, Plaza de Española, 706 E. Bond St., Española, N.M.
- 1-3 p.m., Plaza de Española, 706 E. Bond St., Española, N.M.
Nov. 20 (must pre-register by Nov. 17)
- 10 a.m.- noon, General Franklin E. Miles Park, 1027 Camino Carlos Rey, Santa Fe, N.M.
- 1-3 p.m., at General Franklin E. Miles Park, 1027 Camino Carlos Rey, Santa Fe, N.M.
The route-mapping sessions are being conducted to ensure that the agency has heard and considered all public comments and proposals from previous and new audiences since 2018 route inventories.
To register for one of the four sessions, please contact the BLM Taos Field Office at 575-758-8851 or email at BLM_NM_TAFO_Admin@blm.gov. Please RSVP early to reserve a spot.
