TAOS, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced today that it will hold a lottery sale for dead and down fuelwood in the Gorham Scout Ranch near Chimayo, NM.  BLM personnel will be onsite to direct the public to sites where fuelwood is available for harvest.  The harvest lottery will take place on the following weekends: Oct. 25, 26 and 27 and Nov. 1, 2 and 3.  For randomly selected lottery permit holders, the cost will be $20/cord and must be paid on-site, with exact change.  Change will not be available.  Credit cards, debit cards and personal checks will not be accepted.  Lottery winners will be assigned dates they are able to harvest.  Lottery winners will be notified if they have been selected by Oct. 23.  There is a harvest limit of four cords per household.

In order to be eligible for the Gorham Scout Camp 2019 Fuelwood Lottery Harvest, you must send your name, telephone number, number of cords you are interested in and the weekend you would prefer to harvest, on a 3x5 notecard to Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office, Attn: Forester, Elyssa Durán, 226 Cruz Alta Rd., Taos, NM 87571.

As an alternative, an email with the same pertinent information (name, telephone number, number of cords you are interested in, and the weekend you would prefer to harvest) can be sent to ekduran@blm.gov.  The subject line should read: Gorham Scout Ranch Fuelwood Lottery 2019.

The person whose name is on the lottery entry must be present at wood harvesting.  The BLM will make every attempt to accommodate lottery applicants’ preference for which weekend to harvest, but preferences cannot be guaranteed.  Entries (whether via mail or email) must be received by 4:30 p.m. on October 22.  Please write carefully, as illegible entries will not be considered.
