BLM implements fire restrictions in Apache and Navajo counties

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Gila District will implement Stage 1 fire restrictions in Apache and Navajo counties effective Feb. 28, at 8 a.m. The restrictions are necessary due to high fire danger in the area will remain in effect until rescinded or revoked. 

The following acts are prohibited until further notice: 

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire (charcoal, coal, wood, or any combustible material) other than in a developed campsite or picnic area where metal campfire rings and/or grills are provided. 
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. 
  • Welding, metal grinding activities or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame. 

Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited year-round on federally managed lands in Arizona.
