GUNNISON, Colo. – Today, the Bureau of Land Management Gunnison Field Office announced a 30-day public scoping period to initiate travel management planning efforts across approximately 50,000 acres in San Juan County.

The Town of Silverton and San Juan County recently approved the Silverton Area Trails Plan, which will help inform BLM’s travel management planning in the area. The BLM is also seeking input from the public to address current and future transportation needs.

“Roads and trails on public lands are very important to the economy of Silverton and San Juan County,” said Gunnison Field Manager Elijah Waters. “This plan is an opportunity for the BLM to be a good neighbor by supporting local efforts towards travel management and responding to their vision for the future.”

A public meeting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 20, 2019 at the Kendall Mountain Lodge in Silverton.

The BLM is accepting comments through July 5, 2019. Comments must be submitted through the BLM ePlanning site at https://go.usa.gov/xmMab. Current proposals are also available on the ePlanning site and available for review at the Gunnison Field Office, 210A W. Spencer Ave in Gunnison.

In 2017, recreation activities on BLM-managed lands generated $618 million and supported 5,043 jobs in Colorado.
