WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States’ (BLM-ES) General Land Office (GLO) is collaborating with the National Park Service Homestead National Monument to present at RootsTech 2020, Salt Lake City, February 26 – February 29, 2020, in order to help families discover their homesteading history.
RootsTech is the world's largest family history event focused on the use of technology to discover ancestry and heritage. The BLM-ES GLO is excited to join the National Park Service Homestead National Monument at RootsTech to connect families to their history, through millions of historic and current land records, “Linking the Past to the Future.”
Staff from the National Monument and BLM-ES will share a designated booth at the conference’s trade show, assisting conference attendees in their search for ties to past generations. The BLM-ES GLO will help attendees gain access to records through the GLO Records Automation web site, and Homestead National Monument experts will help individuals access Homestead Land Entry Case Files.
According to Daniel Fleming, who oversees the BLM-ES GLO records mission, “We enjoy demonstrating the GLO website’s functionality at events, such as RootsTech.” Assisting visitors’ research and producing real-time printing of their family’s historic records onsite is the highlight of our interaction with the American public, he added.”
The GLO web site provides live access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States, including image access to more than five million Federal land title records issued between 1788 and the present. The site also hosts images of survey plats and field notes, land status records, and control document index records, and is the most visited website in the Department of Interior. Visit glorecords.blm.gov for more information.
