BOISE, Idaho – The Bureau of Land Management is planning to carry out a prescribed burn in Owyhee County, Idaho, during the last week of September, depending on weather, fuel and ground conditions. The burn will focus on previously fallen and live juniper trees with the objective of reducing juniper encroachment onto the surrounding sagebrush steppe to improve rangeland health.

The Pole Creek Broadcast Prescribed Burn is located on Juniper Mountain, 35 miles southeast of Jordan Valley, Oregon, and is approximately 6,608 acres. The burn units will be ignited by helicopter and ground resources over a two to three- day period with subsequent mop-up and patrol occurring for several days.

The public can expect to see helicopter activity in the Juniper Mountain area for up to four days during ignition operations. Smoke may be visible on the western flanks of Juniper Mountain during ignition operations and for several weeks afterwards.  The BLM encourages visitors to call with questions about the specific locations where crews will be working.
