ELKO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management Elko District, Tuscarora Field Office, is planning to conduct aerial herbicide treatments southwest of Owyhee, Nevada. Herbicide application, via fixed-wing aircraft, is expected to begin September 20, 2019.

Treatments will take up to two weeks for implementation and are dependent upon weather conditions. We ask that people and pets avoid camping or traveling through the treated areas during this time to allow aerial applicators to accomplish treatments in a safe and timely fashion.

These treatments are part of the Elko District Vegetation Treatment Maintenance Project EA, Owyhee Fuel Breaks EA, and 2018 Martin Fire Emergency Stabilization Rehabilitation plan. They are designed to minimize the risk of catastrophic fire and aid in post-fire rehabilitation. The herbicide treatments are timed and applied at a low rate to target invasive annual grasses.

If you have specific questions regarding these treatments please contact Sam Cisney, Elko District Weed Management Specialist, at 775-753-0372 or by email at scisney@blm.gov.
