DOLORES, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management will be offering Christmas tree permits in the greater Dolores area from Nov. 25 – Dec. 24. Permits may be purchased for $8 per tree at the BLM Tres Rios Field Office, 29211 CO-184 in Dolores, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. The BLM accepts cash, credit card, or check.

BLM permits are valid for piñon pine trees. Permit holders are required to keep the permit on them at all times while cutting and transporting the tree. Maps and additional information regarding cutting areas will be provided upon purchase of a Christmas tree permit.

“The Christmas tree permit program is a great way to enjoy your public lands while making new memories with your family and friends during the holidays,” said BLM Tres Rios Field Office Manager Connie Clementson.

The BLM recommends bringing a handsaw, eye protection, rope or twine, extra food, water and blankets when you cut your tree. Tire chains, a shovel and emergency supplies are also recommended. Remember to watch the weather conditions and let someone know where you will be and when to expect you back.
