BLM to begin taking online reservations at Axolotl Cabin

(DILLON, Mont.) – Are you already thinking of a relaxing summer getaway to a cabin in the woods? Or perhaps next season’s hunting trip beckons and you need a place to stay while stalking elusive big game on public lands?
Axolotl Cabin, overlooking the scenic Madison Valley in southwestern Montana, is a good choice for your wilderness adventure. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management’s Dillon Field Office, the solar-powered cabin can be reserved for public use from May 28 to October 12. The field office will begin taking reservations starting March 1 at 8 a.m. Mountain Time.

The cabin costs $75 per night and sleeps a maximum of seven people. There is a queen bed, a queen-size fold-out futon, two single bunkbeds and a twin bed. No bedding is provided. The cabin is equipped with a stove/oven, refrigerator, barbecue grill, wood stove in the bedroom area, fireplace, outside fire pit, and an outhouse. There is non-potable water available. Two small corrals near the cabin can accommodate two horses each. Renters are required to bring their own certified weed seed-free feed; no grazing is allowed.
Axolotl Cabin is located 14 miles southwest of Ennis, in the foothills of the Gravelly Range. The cabin is at an elevation of about 7,000 feet and is adjacent to Axolotl Lakes Wilderness Study Area.
