MONTROSE, Colo. – Today, the Bureau of Land Management Southwest District approved Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc.’s proposal to upgrade 80 miles of transmission line located west of Montrose to southeast of Dove Creek, Colorado.

This approval allows Tri-State to rebuild the existing 115kV line to operate at 230kV on federal lands. The BLM was the lead agency responsible for the project’s environmental analysis with assistance from  the U.S. Forest Service, the Colorado Energy Office as well as Montrose, San Miguel and Dolores counties.

The project includes approving an amendment to the existing right-of-way to expand it from 100 feet to 150 feet wide while authorizing the construction of the new transmission line, originally built in 1958.
