BLM announces availability of lottery fuelwood harvest at Wild Rivers

TAOS, N.M. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announces that the Taos Field Office is hosting a lottery for an authorized fuelwood harvest at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area near Cerro, N.M., to minimize residual dead and down heavy fuels from a recent Federal highways project.
Available fuelwood is mostly piñon pine with some Rocky Mountain juniper (cedar). To be considered for the lottery, you must provide your contact information to the BLM Forester Elyssa Durán by phone at 575-751-4752 or email at ekduran@blm.gov. Interested parties may also apply for the lottery by visiting the BLM Taos Field Office at 226 Cruz Alta Road, Taos, NM 87571.
The BLM is accepting entries for the lottery beginning today through Sept. 8 when lottery winners will be randomly selected and notified by telephone. During the notification, the BLM will provide additional instructions to lottery winners regarding how to obtain their permit and other authorization documentation. The lottery fuelwood sale will take place Sept. 17-19, 2021.
