BLM and partners to host multiple National Public Lands Day volunteer events in western Colorado

Grand Junction, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction, Colorado River Valley Field Offices, and partners will host National Public Lands Day events during the month of September. The variety of events will take place along the Eagle and Colorado Rivers, and at popular recreations areas just north of Rifle and near Grand Junction, Colorado.
“National Public Lands Day is a great way to celebrate and appreciate your public lands,” said Upper Colorado River District Manager Greg Larson. “We appreciate the commitment and pride our volunteers show in their support of public lands.”
Colorado River Valley Field Office:
Eagle River and Colorado River Recreation Site Clean Ups – In partnership with Eagle River Watershed Council.

- Volunteers will help clean up garbage around the following BLM recreation sites:
- Eagle River: Wolcott and Community Boat Ramp areas
- CO River: Dotsero, Lyons and Cottonwood
Grand Hogback Trail Maintenance – In partnership with Rifle Area Mountain Bike Organization.

- Volunteers will help disperse native plant seed mix within the disturbed trail corridor on the new trails built this past spring (approximately 2 miles) as well as perform trail maintenance including removing weeds and repairing trail tread.

North Desert Clean Ups (Two simultaneous events)

- September 17, 2022, 9 a.m. at the 27 ¼ Road Grand Valley OHV Recreation Area
- September 17,2022, 9 a.m. at the 25 Road Parking Area
- Volunteers at both events will help clean up garbage around public lands in each area.

- Volunteers will help break ground on a new trail. As a two-day event, campsites and meals will be provided by Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado Chef Crew and bring your bike to enjoy the trail network.
The Great Poop Scoop and Trail Workday – In partnership with Colorado Canyons Association.

- September 24, 2022, at 9 a.m.
- Volunteers will join staff to clean up after our furry friends at the Devils Canyon Trailhead in McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area.
- Volunteers will have the option of participating in the “Poop Scoop” or trail maintenance.
