ANCHORAGE – The Bureau of Land Management Alaska is inviting the public to submit their favorite photos of their furry friends or recreation trends while recreating on your favorite BLM-managed public lands.
To celebrate the Year of the Dog, BLM Alaska is seeking photos of you and your canine companions enjoying your public lands. We are looking for four (4) winning photos – three people’s choice awards and one BLM staff favorite. The winning photos will be highlighted on BLM Alaska’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, the homepage of blm.gov/alaska and will be highlighted in the 2019 winter issue of Frontiers!
No furry friend, no problem! We are also on the hunt for photos of you and your friends recreating on Alaska’s BLM-managed public lands. Submissions will be accepted for a wide range of activities to include: hiking, skiing, river floating, bicycling, off-highway vehicle riding, dog mushing, camping, gold panning, fishing or subsistence hunting. The winning photos will be highlighted at the 2019 BLM’s Great Alaskan Sportsman Show display.
Both contests start today and run concurrently until Oct. 31, 2018. All winning photos will be selected by Nov. 15, 2018 and winners will be notified shortly after if their photo is chosen. Photo guidelines and rules for entry are available on the web at:

“We are excited to see photos of the many ways people enjoy their public lands," said Lesli Ellis-Wouters, Director of Communications. "We can’t wait to see some images of our beautiful Alaskan landscapes, whether under the summer’s midnight sun or the winter’s northern lights."
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
