BLM Alaska Fire Service EFF Rookie Academy Application Period Ends May 1

(FAIRBANKS, Alaska) – Are you interested in becoming an emergency wildland firefighter? The application deadline to become a rookie EFF firefighter with BLM Alaska Fire Service will close on May 1. In order to attend the upcoming BLM AFS Rookie Academy in Fairbanks, applicants must have completed the Health Screening Questionnaire (HSQ) form by the March 5 deadline, pass the Work Capacity Test and complete the required online courses before applying. Rookies must be 18-years old by May 20 in order to attend the academy. The number of rookies will determine if there will be one or two five-day training sessions between May 15 and May 25.
Requirements needed for the Rookie Academy:
- Applicants must submit certificates of completion for IS-700 Introduction to National Incident Management System (NIMS) and IS-100B Introduction to Incident Command System when applying for the Rookie Academy. These training courses are found at https://training.fema.gov/is/. Email or fax certificates to AFS_EFF@blm.gov or 1-907-356-5609 by the May 1 deadline.
- All Rookies will need to pass the Army Security Screening prior to traveling to BLM AFS facilities on Fort Wainwright and must present a valid state ID, passport or tribal identification card in order to access the Army post. BLM AFS personnel will contact rookies and collect the information need to pass the security screening.
