Vernal, UT--Cowboys, outlaws, and traders - Explore Utah’s Wild West at the Historic John Jarvie Ranch in Browns Park, in northeastern Utah. This site has something for everyone with picnicking and camping, fishing, hiking, and tours of the historical site including a blacksmith shop and general store. Wander the grounds and imagine hiding out here, just like the notorious outlaws Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
The buildings and exhibits at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Historic John Jarvie Ranch will be open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A BLM representative is generally available to provide tours and information about the ranch and the area. Brochures for self-guided tours are also available. The Ranch is located in Brown’s Park, Utah. To get there from Vernal, travel north 55 miles on Highway 191. Approximately two miles passed the Wyoming state line, turn east 22 miles on gravel/paved road (including a steep hill) and follow the signs Jarvie Ranch. From Maybell, Colorado travel east on State Highway 318 over 70 miles of paved and 8 miles of gravel road, follow the signs to Jarvie Ranch.
The annual Jarvie Fest is scheduled for Oct. 8, 2016 and will include special demonstrations, music, and wagon rides. Stay tuned for more details about this upcoming event.
For more information, to arrange for special tours, or to reserve a group camp-site, call Ranger Mark Thompson at (435) 885-3307. No reservations are needed for individual camp-sites, which are available on a first come basis.
