YUMA, Ariz. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Yuma Field Office is planning to conduct prescribed burning at La Posa Long Term Visitor Area (LTVA), as weather conditions allow. The burn area is located approximately two miles south of Quartzsite.

Prescribed burning of slash piles will begin after April 15, the end of LTVA season, and continue until all piles have been burned. Slash piles are created during maintenance of access roads at La Posa LTVA. The removal and prescribed burning of vegetation piles helps to improve access for recreationists and emergency responders.

To ensure the safety of residents and visitors, BLM fire management personnel will ignite the slash piles when weather conditions are conducive to burning. Residents and visitors should expect light smoke during burn operations.

Local roads adjacent to the burn piles may be temporarily restricted and monitored by fire personnel during the operation to provide for public safety. The burning will not affect local traffic.
