Subject: Treatment Project Areas Spatial Data Standard Version 1.0
This information bulletin (IB) announces the availability of Treatment Project Areas Spatial Data Standard (TRT_PROJ). The data standard defines how this type of data is to be captured in a Geographic Information System (GIS), defines attributes used, and defines coding schemes (domains). The data has been added to the corporate spatial data editing system. The data can be edited by approved field personnel following established procedures and are also available for display and analytical purposes by all users.
The dataset represents project areas for land treatments. Treatments for this purpose are defined as human alterations to the landscape for the purpose of natural resource management including use, enhancement, and protection. Treatment types include prescribed fire, biological, chemical, harvest, mechanical, revegetation, and exclosure/protection. A treatment project area represents a larger area that groups together one or more related treatment activities. Examples include: a timber sale that includes many separate harvest polygons, thinning treatments for a resource area for a fiscal year, and reforestation treatments for a specific area.
The draft data standard was issued for internal review and comment prior to this IB. To see comments and responses of that review, contact Eric Hiebenthal, State Data Administrator, at 503-808-6565, or by email at ehiebent@blm.gov.
Any questions about this data standard can be directed to Leslie Frewing, State Data Steward for Treatment Project Areas (Planning), at 503-808-6088; Carolina Hooper, State Data Steward for Treatment Project Areas (Forestry), at 503-315-5927; Dana Baker-Allum GIS technical lead for Treatment Project Areas, at 503-808-6320; or Eric Hiebenthal, State Data Administrator, at 503-808-6565.
