Subject: BLM Nevada FY 2011 Cultural Resources Workshop

DD: 01/21/2011

This information Bulletin seeks District and Field Office suggestions for agenda items and attendance numbers for the annual BLM Nevada Cultural Resources Workshop (Workshop) scheduled for March 28-31, 2011 in Reno, Nevada.

Each District Office should provide proposed agenda items electronically to Bryan Hockett by January 21, 2011. NV-930 will distribute the final agenda approximately two weeks prior to the beginning of the Workshop.

Background. BLM Nevada’s Workshop is an important event that brings together cultural resources specialists from each District or Field Office in a face-to-face setting. The workshop provides an opportunity for data and project sharing experiences, training, and coordination with other government entities such as the Nevada SHPO’s office. FY2011’s Workshop will provide sessions on working with the revised Nevada State Protocol, Advisory Council coordination with Nancy Brown (Council’s BLM Liaison), Guidelines revision, ARPA cases, and permitting. In addition, a full day of NAGPRA training will be conducted by Emily Palus of the Washington Office on March 31.

Instruction. The Nevada State Office is asking that each District support the attendance of cultural resources staff and interested managers to the Workshop. Please provide the total number of attendees anticipated from each District with your consolidated suggestions for agenda items to Bryan Hockett by January 21, 2011. It is expected that representatives from the Washington Office, Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will be in attendance for portions of the Workshop. NAGPRA training will be held on March 31 in conjunction with the Workshop. All Workshop attendees, as well as those who do not attend the Workshop sessions (particularly District tribal liaisons) are encouraged to attend the NAGPRA training. The Workshop will be held in Reno, with the exact location TBA. Travel expenses are to be spent out of base 1050 funds supplied to each District.
