Invasive Species Education Signs
EMAIL TRANSMISSION – 8/7/17
Information Bulletin No. MT-2017-025
To: All Montana/Dakotas Employees
From: Acting State Director
Subject: Invasive Species Education Signs
This bulletin is to remind managers and staff that our agency is directed to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species. This direction has been in place since the issuance of Executive Order 13112 in 1999.
Recent findings of exotic invasive mussels in Montana water bodies serve to underline the enormous threat invasive species pose to the resources we manage. Education and awareness is a vital part of the Bureau’s efforts to prevent new invasions. Public land visitors, users, and permittees need constant information and reminders about practices that prevent the spread of invasive species to un-infested areas. Access points to public lands offer some of the best opportunities to educate the public about invasive species and their threats. Educational signs and posters at kiosks, trailheads, campgrounds, boat ramps, and river accesses can inform the public about invasive species threats and ways to mitigate those threats.
Informational signs (see attachments) about invasive species prevention practices are being distributed to field offices. Post these signs at access points, kiosks, campgrounds, etc. lacking invasive species educational signs.
