Instruction Memorandum No. WY-2012-045
Expires 09/30/2013
To: District Managers
From: Associate State Director
Subject: National Fire and Aviation Preparedness Review Report
Program Area: Fire Preparedness, Fire and Aviation Management
Purpose: This Instruction Memorandum provides direction to submit a written action plan to the
State Fire Management Officer for all District level recommendations documented in the 2012
National Fire Preparedness Review final report (Attachment 1).
Policy/Action: For each recommendation in the attached preparedness report, the action plan
should provide: (1) proposed corrective action, (2) name of individual responsible, and (3) due
date for completion of the corrective action.
Background: As required by Bureau of Land Management policy, a fire program preparedness
review was conducted in Wyoming from June 18-27, 2012. The purpose of the review was to assess
and improve operational preparedness of the fire management program. The review found that the
Wyoming fire program is prepared for the 2012 season.
The preparedness report consists of commendations, which recognize individuals or units for
exemplary achievement in fire management, and findings/recommendations, which state specific
findings and recommend corrective action. The forthcoming District actions plans serve as formal
follow up to all District recommendations in the report. Once submitted, the branch of Fire and
Aviation staff will assist your District fire staff to ensure action items from these plans are
completed.
Timeframe: Final written District action plans are due to the State Fire Management Officer by
August 28, 2012. This will allow for all action plans to be compiled and submitted to the Assistant
Director, Fire and Aviation by August 29, 2012.
