Subject: Wild Horse and Burro Gather Guidance.
Program Area: Wild Horse and Burro Program
Purpose: This Instructional Memorandum (IM) supplements Washington Office (WO) IM No.
2010-130, “Wild Horse and Burro Gather Decisions.” This guidance will facilitate effective
communication during the development of Wild Horse gather environmental assessments and
plans. The IM describes the review process for approval of wild horse population management
techniques.
Policy/Action: IM No. WY-2011-044 amends WO IM No. 2010-130,”Wild Horse and Burro
Gather Decisions”, by supplementing the attached “Wild Horse and Burro Gather Planning
Checklist.”
In addition, the attached cover sheet must accompany proposal(s) to use wild horse population
management techniques other than gather and Porcine Zona Pellucida (PZP) applications.
Timeframe: This IM is effective immediately.
