Subject: National Landscape Conservation System 10th Anniversary Celebration Communications Plan and Request for Information DD: 09/25/2009
Program Area: National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Communications Renewable Resources and Planning
Purpose: This Instruction Memorandum (IM) transmits the 10th Anniversary Communications Plan. The IM also request each State to identify Anniversary celebration leads and possible Anniversary events.
Policy/Action: To assist in planning, coordinating, and publicizing the various activities, each State Office will provide a lead person for the 10th Anniversary Celebration. The lead will be responsible for coordinating State activities, participating in planning conference calls, and providing the Washington Office (WO) with Anniversary events and updates. We are also requesting a list of possible celebration events you may be hosting that can be tied to the
10th Anniversary. Angela West has been designated as the WO coordinator for the
10th Anniversary celebration. Please provide the lead person’s name and contact information, as well as a preliminary list of events, to Angela West (Angela_West@blm.gov), WO Tourism Coordinator by the due date.
Timeframe: Effective upon issuance.
Budget Impact: None
Background: The NLCS will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2010.
The W0 has prepared a communications plan (attachment) as a guide, which you are encouraged to use and expand on in planning your own celebration activities.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) WO will hold several national events including a kickoff event in Washington DC, a celebration in the Denver, Colorado area, and a science symposium in Albuquerque. We encourage State Offices to hold events that showcase individual NLCS units and to involve local communities and partners. The BLM WO will provide educational products, banners, exhibits, a 10th Anniversary Website, and tool kits for Field use.
