Subject: Wyoming 2014 Wildland Fire Preparedness Reviews DD: 6/20/2014
Program Area: Wildland Fire Preparedness
Purpose: The 2014 Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations (Red Book),
Chapter 2, requires pre-season Wildland Fire Preparedness Reviews be conducted by Bureau of
Land Management (BLM) Managers at National, State, District, Field Office and/or Resource
Area level annually.
Policy Action: In Wyoming, individual State Office led District Wildland Fire Preparedness
Reviews rotate annually, with the state-wide national review every fourth year. For 2014 a
review will be conducted in the Wind River/Bighorn Basin District by the Wyoming Branch of
Fire and Aviation. This review will begin the week of June 16, 2014. A final itinerary will be
sent to the Wind River/Bighorn Basin District prior to the review.
Reviews will be completed using the standard Fire and Aviation Preparedness Review Guide and
Checklists, which can be viewed and/or downloaded at:

Paul Hohn, Wyoming State Office Branch of Fire and Aviation, Assistant State Fire
Management Officer, is the team leader for the 2014 Wind River/Bighorn Basin District review.
The success of this review depends on the support from the District Office and the Wyoming
State Office. The State Office Fire staff will solicit nominees for the review team in the
following subject matter areas:

All per diem and any overtime accrued for the BLM team members of the State Office led
Review Team will be paid by the Wyoming Branch of Fire and Aviation.
Additionally, the High Desert District and High Plains District must complete an internal review
of their respective programs and submit completed Preparedness Review Checklists,
Commendations and Recommendations to Wyoming Branch of Fire and Aviation by
June 20, 2014. District Fire Management Officers are encouraged to enlist the aid of experts
from adjoining Fire Management Units to assist in these reviews.

Timeframe: Effective immediately. Line Officers will ensure that preparedness reviews
are conducted within areas of their responsibility and they are aware of the results prior to
June 20, 2014.
Budget Impact: Costs may be incurred as a result of conducting the various State and Unit level
preparedness reviews. Costs should be considered a standard part of providing oversight for
wildland fire management programs at the State and Unit level and covered within current
budget allocations.

Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations (Red Book), Chapter 2.
