Subject: Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Award Nominations DD: 7/15/2019 & 7/29/2019
The Washington Office (WO) is requesting nominations for the 2018 Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Awards. The awards will recognize the outstanding accomplishments of grazing permittees/lessees and collaborative planning teams involved with public rangeland management. Awards will be given in the categories of “Rangeland Stewardship” and “Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship.” A description of each award and selection criteria may be found in Attachment 1.
Nomination criteria will include:
- Demonstration of improvement and/or long-standing maintenance of rangeland resources through conservation stewardship.
- Use of beneficial management practices to restore, protect, and enhance rangeland resources; and/or those related to sagebrush steppe habitats.
- Efforts to collaborate and cooperate with other users of public lands.
The 2018 Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Awards will be presented at the Public Lands Council’s fall meeting to be held in Great Falls, MT during the week of September 25, 2019.
Field managers are encouraged to submit nominations to their respective state office by July 15, 2019 in one or more award categories that meet criteria. State offices are encouraged to submit nominations to Jim Bowmer (jbowmer@blm.gov) in the Division of Forest, Rangeland, Riparian and Plant Conservation (WO-220) by July 29, 2019. Each nomination must clearly state the award for which the nomination is submitted. (Please use the enclosed form, Attachment 2.)
Nominations are encouraged to recognize where grazing permittees/lessees and/or collaborative teams have demonstrated new and innovative efforts, but also recognize the efforts of those who have been committed to effective long-standing resource management. Further details on the nomination process and standards for judging nominees are contained in the Nomination Process for the Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Awards (Attachment 1).
Please direct any questions pertaining to these awards to Maggie Marston (WO-220) at 202-912-7444 or Kimberly Hackett (WO-220) at 202-912-7216.
