Aviation Leadership Award

The Office of Fire and Aviation is soliciting nominations for the 2018 BLM Wyoming Fire and Aviation Leadership Award. This award recognizes excellence in fire and aviation leadership by an individual or group of individuals from the same Field or District Office. All nominations must be submitted via the BLM Wyoming Fire and Aviation Award Nomination Google Form by March 8, 2019.
Nominations will be accepted from peers, supervisors, or other BLM Wyoming employees using the criteria listed below and outlined in the attached nomination form.
Nominations should address leadership example(s) of at least one of the following criteria in narrative form (1 page maximum - Times New Roman font, 12 pt.):
- Acts as a mentor to fire, fuels, dispatch and/or fuels management staff
- Uses innovative and adaptable training techniques to involve student interest and participation regardless of type of audience
- Demonstrates the ability to build a team into a cohesive unit, that results in a group/module/unit that is far superior than existed previously with the same individuals
- Utilizes previous shortcomings or mistakes as a positive learning tool through After Action Review’s or internal reviews
- Demonstrates initiative by the involvement in fire preparedness reviews, site visits and improving standards at the local unit
- Develops and/or promotes a new program or procedure that encourages Fire Leadership
- Provides Fire Leadership across Agency, functional and political boundaries
- Demonstrates success in making those around them better leaders
- Improves safety performance, accountability and/or tracking thereby making their program and environment a safer place
A panel appointed by the Associate State Director will review all nominations. This is an annual award and is presented at the Fire and Aviation Preseason meeting. The 2018 award will be presented to the recipient(s) at the 2019 BLM Wyoming Fire and Aviation Preseason meeting in April. The Award winner's name(s) and year will be inscribed on a traveling plaque to be displayed at the winner’s home unit.
