Subject: Updating List of Approved Herbicide Formulations and Adjuvants
The 9011 Manual states “only pesticides that have been analyzed through NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) documentation can be used in chemical pest control on Bureau of Land Management lands.” Attached is an updated list of herbicide formulations and adjuvants approved for use on BLM administered lands. Eleven herbicide formulations, representing ten BLM-approved active ingredients including thirty-three adjuvants, added to the list. There are also some minor edits to the existing formulations. The information is based upon the Vegetation Treatments Using Herbicides on the Bureau of Land Management Lands in 17 Western States Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) Record of Decision (ROD) and the Vegetation Treatments Using Herbicides on BLM Lands in Oregon Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Record of Decision (ROD). The manufacturer and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration number are provided to assist in the preparation of the Pesticide Use Proposal.
When using adjuvants approved for use on the BLM-administered lands, first refer to the herbicide label and identify which type of approved adjuvant is required with the particular formulation (for example, non-ionic surfactant, crop oil concentrate, deposition agent). Then refer to the attached list to identify the approved adjuvant and select the one that fits the application criteria.
Continued emphasis is placed on the correct application of herbicides. Consult the applicable EIS, along with the Environmental Assessment (EA) linked to the treatment area, and ensure the planned treatment is being planned in accordance with the environmental documents.
For additional information or questions regarding formulations and adjuvants approved for use on the BLM-administered lands, contact either Gina Ramos, Senior Weed Specialist, WO-220 - (202) 912-7226 or gramos@blm.gov or Richard D.
