UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIORBUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENTWashington, D.C.  20240May 20, 2011 In Reply Refer To:1114 (172) PEMS TRANSMISSION 05/20/2011Information Bulletin No. 2011-061 To:                   All WO Officials and AFOsFrom:              Director, NLCS and Community PartnershipsSubject:           The Secretary’s 2011 “Partners in Conservation” Awards:  Call for Nominations  DD: 6/13/2011I am pleased to issue this call for nominations for the Secretary’s 2011 “Partners in Conservation” Awards, which will acknowledge 2010 achievements in collaborative conservation.  These honorary awards recognize external and internal partnerships that promote conservation, initiate large landscape conservation projects, protect natural and cultural resources, use innovative approaches for resource management, and engage diverse entities and youth in accomplishing the Department’s mission.The “external” category recognizes conservation achievements among Departmental agencies and outside entities including:  Federal, State, local, and tribal governments; private for profit and nonprofit institutions; and other non-governmental organizations; and individuals.  The “internal” category recognizes Department Bureau/Office employees, teams, and organizations working to build capacity for partnering with others and to build a culture of collaboration within the Department.In 2010, four BLM-coordinated partnerships were honored with Partners awards; more information on last year’s BLM awardees is available on the BLM Partnerships Program website at https://www.blm.gov/get-involved/partnerships.Nomination criteria, procedures and an application form for both the external and internal partnership categories are attached.  Please note that for each winning BLM nomination, the Washington Office will fund travel for one person to attend the award ceremony, scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., in September.  Travel funding for additional winner representatives or for accompanying BLM staff will be the responsibility of the nominating State or Field Offices, or partner agencies and/or organizations.Please e-mail electronic files AND mail hard copies of your nomination packets to Trevor Needham, National Partnerships Program Lead, Division of Education, Interpretation and Partnerships (WO-172), by no later than Monday, June 13, 2011.  (The required Departmental award certification form DI-451 should be completed to the extent possible at the State or Field Office level; however, Bureau/Department signatures will be obtained by the Washington Office once the nomination packet has been received.)  Bureau nominations will be compiled and submitted to the Director for approval, and then forwarded to the Assistant Secretary, Lands and Minerals Management, for concurrence.  Approved BLM nomination finalists will be forwarded to the Departmental Office of Conservation and Educational Partnerships for consideration. We encourage nominations and look forward to learning about and helping to showcase your outstanding partnerships!  Should you have any questions, please call Trevor Needham at (202) 912-7097. Signed by:  Carl Rountree, Assistant Director, National Landscape Conservation System and Community PartnershipsAuthenticated by: Robert M.
