UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIORBUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENTWASHINGTON, D.C.  20240March 23, 2010In Reply Refer To:5000 (270) PEMS TRANSMISSION 03/31/2010Information Bulletin No. 2010-055To:             All Field OfficialsFrom:         Assistant Director, Renewable Resources and PlanningSubject:      Bureau of Land Management Forestry Workshop April 12-16, 2010  The Forest and Woodlands Division (WO-270) is sponsoring a workshop with the theme “Forestry in a Changing Environment.”  The workshop is scheduled for the week of April 12-16, 2010, at the Downtown Radisson Hotel, Salt Lake City, Utah.The workshop will include national, state, and field foresters throughout the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with the goal of addressing new guidance and existing standards to ensure consistency in the administration of the BLM’s Forestry Program.  The Forestry Program has increased in size over the past few years with many new foresters hired, some full-time and others as part of a collateral duty.  A draft agenda is attached, showing how this workshop will focus on providing background information and the tools need for our field foresters to succeed in their responsibilities.       While field foresters, particularly relatively new ones, are the main target audience, field managers and specialists in fuels treatment as well as other resource specialists who are involved with the planning, development, and implementation of forest health and restoration actions are encouraged to attend.  A tentative request for attendees was previously made through state forest and woodland program leads and indicated considerable interest.  The states are requested to send state forest and woodland leads and field office specialists with lead responsibilities for developing forest health projects.To help offset the travel costs for this workshop; WO-270 will provide $500 for each field or state office person that attends.  The funds will be redirected to the specific states when attendee numbers are received.Individuals are responsible for their own reservations and a block of rooms has been reserved.  Participants are strongly encouraged to register with the Radisson Hotel prior to the room cut-off date of March 29, 2010, in order to get the group rate.  Reservation and transportation information is attached.  Attendees are to notify state forestry program leads of their intentions in order that arrangements with the hotel can be kept current and a list of planned participants may be updated.Any questions about the workshop may be directed to Aaron Wilkerson at 801-539-4077 or Jim Bowmer at 202-912-7247.Signed by:                    Authenticated by:Edwin L.
