Members also will serve as instructors for the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) "Basic Volunteer Administration Course"(1102-2). Please encourage your staff's Volunteer Coordinators, or Resource Specialists who work with volunteers, to apply for the positions on this team.The VPAT is an interdisciplinary team composed of BLM staff and volunteers that serves as an adjunct to WO-172. The team assists with national volunteer program initiatives and provides technical support and services to the field. It plays an important role in representing Field Office needs and perspectives to the WO. Members also serve as instructors for the agency's "Basic Volunteer Administration" course, a one and one-half day "nuts and bolts" introduction to operating a successful volunteer program at BLM offices. The VPAT members serve for a term of 2 to 3 years.Serving on VPAT provides members the opportunity to gain a broad perspective of the Volunteer Program by working with headquarters staff and with volunteer coordinators throughout the country. Membership in VPAT also allows individuals to share their personal experience, leadership skills, and perspectives to help shape and promote the Volunteer Program Bureauwide. Meetings involving all team members are held once a year with travel costs borne by the WO. Team members also collaborate during monthly conference calls and informally by various communication methods. They are expected to provide responses to program-related questions from the Field (coordinated by the VPAT Chairperson) and take on occasional assignments in support of the Volunteer Program. Time commitments are not excessive. Participation as instructors for the agency's Basic Volunteer Administration course requires members to teach, on average, two on-site courses/year, with travel and per diem costs paid for by the WO.Volunteer Field Coordinators and Resource Specialists are eligible to apply for the two vacancies.
