Subject: Procedures for Reproducing Desert Access Guides and 100K Maps
Program Area: Mapping Science
Purpose: This Instruction Memorandum provides guidance on the procedures to be followed for the reproduction of the Desert Access Guides (DAGS) and 100K Map series.
DAGS and 100K Maps are critical to BLM in displaying accurate ownership and special areas with regard to BLM lands. There are nearly 10,000 requests for these maps by the public and BLM staff annually. As conditions change on the ground that each map depicts and as inventory of the maps are depleted it is necessary to update each map in a scheduled timeframe. Coordination between the Field Offices, Districts, State Office, and the NOC is required to meet deadlines to ensure map inventories are not completely depleted.
Attached are the procedures that will be followed to ensure these maps in the reproduction cycle meet the required deadlines. Also, attached is the present list of maps being reproduced and their status.
Timeframe: Due to immediate inventory shortages, 13 maps will be reprinted without any changes. Planned updates to these and other maps will continue and these procedures will start immediately, with annual inventory reviews being completed by October 1 of each year.
Contact: Questions concerning this policy should be addressed to Lance Bishop, Chief, Branch of Geographic Services, at (916) 978-4311 or by e-mail to lbishop@ca.blm.gov.
