This Information Bulletin serves to transmit the Air Resource Handbook for California
Air Resources include air quality (smog), visibility, climate and weather, and pollutant deposition. BLM is required to protecting air resources under FLPMA. BLM protects air resources by preventing air pollution. We can do this by:
- Promoting compliance with the Clean Air Act and Clean Air Act regulations set by EPA, the California Air Resources Board, and local air districts.
- Considering air resource impacts when deciding on proposed uses of Public Land.
- Taking air resource impacts into account when planning BLM operations.
The Air Resource Handbook introduces basic air resource concepts, describes the Clean Air Act regulatory program as implemented in California, outlines BLM responsibilities, provides management practices for protecting Air Resources on Public Lands, and gives advice on how to get more information.
Please use the Handbook to strengthen stewardship over air resources in your office area. Training on use of the new Handbook will be offered by District beginning in September.
Any questions or requests for assistance related to air resources can be directed to Frank Giles, State Air Resource Specialist, at (916) 978-4673, or (279) 200-2861 (mobile), or via email at fgiles@blm.gov.
